It’s Official…My Place & Deep Fried…

DSC03772

Every year we are always wondering right around this time where we are all going to gather for Thanksgiving and who all is coming? Last year my brother in law Joe had us all up to his place. It was a lot of fun. Each of us pitched in by bringing a dish or two and helping to set up tables and so on. The big surprise was that Joe was deep frying the turkey! Not just one turkey….but two!! Two different kinds of marinades gave us a slightly different taste of each one and it was fabulous!! This was my first time having deep fried turkey and I’m not kidding when I tell you it was amazing!! We have all decided, that turkey day, will be here at my house this year, and weather permitting, Joe will be deep frying two more turkeys in my yard!! Here’s Joe cooking last years birds in his yard….DSC03775 DSC03781 I guess this will be the scene at my house,  next week, and it should be fun! My mother in law, makes the most amazing pork/peach stuffing in the world, and she will be gracing us with that. I think my sister in law is making mashed potatoes and bringing that. That leaves me with the rest of the fixins like butternut squash and whatever else I come up with. Plus… the cranberry sauce, pickles and olives, rolls, pies and such. It should be a lot of fun and we hope the weather cooperates. If not, I will be cooking a large turkey in my oven….not a problem! I may cook a small one anyway! I need gravy for those mashed potatoes don’t I?? Above photos were from last year and here are a few from the year before at my house….I’m starting to see a pattern here….My house….then Joe’s house….then my house…..DSC02826 Before the crowd arrived…my son playing guitar.DSC02834 Starting to arrive…..DSC02835 Gathering the goodies…..DSC02843 Fun and family….Woody goofing around.DSC02845 DSC02848 Maybe just ONE piece of that pie!! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will be back with updated photos of this years turkey day soon…..if not before!

Meanwhile, I am working on more mouse pincushions and other crafts when I can. My cousin took some of my mouseeees to a craft show she goes to…we’ll see what happens. I don’t think any of them will sell. I have been working on some new and improved ones! I’ll show you soon. The weather here in Maine has been so nice during the day! We are blessed. I will leave you with this wonderful Irish blessing…..

Wishing you always...
Walls for the wind,
A roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire.
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire……:)

Don't you love family get-togethers? We're going to my son Jason's house in Poland. There will be Jason and his wife, hs 2 stepdaughters and their boyfriends, his son and daughter, his mother- and father-in-law, his sister-in-law, and my oldest son Eric and his wife and two sons, plus hubby and me. Great fun.
BTW, That pie looked delicious!

I got mushy and teary when looking at your feast-day photos and reading your comments. Great usage of the 5 W's w/ heart!
Just think, dearest daughter-in-law, some day your grandchildren and great grandchildren (and their heirs) can read these blogs and it's genealogy at it's best!
Love, GeeGee

I love the deep-fried turkey but then how do you make your gravy? You have to have gravy.

I heard that the deep fried turkey is yummy, scares me though. I'm glad you have Joe who sounds like he has done it a few times. I love the pie picture, made me drool, excuse me while I slurp it back up, ha!
BTW-I saw a pattern with those cute little mice! They were attached and coming out of a Christmas stocking!

Eva:...Wow! You'll be right around the corner from me! Have a grand time with your family my friend!
GeeGee:..Awe...we always have such a great time now don't we?? I am so glad we are having it here and that you will be here! I can't imagine it without you! Love you.
Smart Mouth:..Ha!! Funny you should ask because I was asking that very same question yesterday!! I told my husband we needed to bake a small turkey just to have gravy...then it dawned on me...chicken broth! I went shopping and you'll never guess what I found?? Turkey broth!!...Yup...canned turkey broth...can you beleive it? I never even knew it existed? So...we'll see how it tastes...I'll let you know.
Dawn:..I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful the flavor is with deep fried turkey. I was a skeptic until last year. I also am scared of the cooking of it but Joe has it all down pat. He read the directions and does it all just perfectly. One of the birds was a little dark last year but oh that turkey underneath the skin was scrumptious!

I have never had friend turkey, but would be willing to try it. I see our festive holiday menus are very much alike. The squash, mashed potato, olives, etc. My husband IS going to be home, so I will be a happy cook that day. I will be calling you. If you have caller ID, it will say I am calling from Lewiston....but that's just because that's where I first bought my cell phone. Debbie, I am wishing you the happiest Thanksgiving ever. You are such a sweet friend, with a soul full of kindness and joy...you deserve the best. I plan to have lots of pie! Hugs, Kathleen

Gadzooks....that must take a lot of OIL!! Looks dangerous to me. I'll bet it is delish, tho.
Enjoy your turkey day....looks like you will be having lots of fun. That's what it's all about anyway.

Hmmm..I know I commented on your deep fried turkey but it is no where to be found. Just checking to see what you are up to, Debbie.
