A Sick Russell…

I just wanted to let people know that my friend Dawn at C & G Design is having a blogaversary giveaway! If you would like to be a part of it, click on her link on the right hand side of my page. The one with the picture of Raggedy Ann dolls. She is giving away some wonderful handmade gifts that she made herself!! Check it out…she is a very talented girl! She’s amazing and always working on some sort of beautiful craft, or two, or three! I believe the drawing is June 1st and this celebrates her 1ooth post. Congratulations to my friend Dawn!!

On a sadder note, my Jack Russell Terrier, Obie, is sick. He has been acting strange. He never pees in the house and has done that twice in the middle of the night this week, by the door. He seems uncomfortable and is drinking lots of water. Last night he was panting and he only does that if he is hot, or scared. The vet asked me to get a urine sample this morning, and bring it to them for testing. I just did that. I waited for the results. They were not good, but it could have been much worse. High levels of glucose and some white blood cell counts were high. What does that mean? A possible urinary tract infection and diabetes! He goes back for blood work at 3:00 today just to be sure. I will find out positively, then. Apparently the only treatment for diabetes in dogs, is insulin. That surprised me. He will have to get shots twice a day. I hope it’s not that, but it looks like it might be. Say a little prayer for Obie. I will let you know what happens. :(

So sorry to hear about Obie's illness and hope it's only a urinary infection. Isn't it amazing how our doggie and kitty friends take some of the same meds as us humans?

Oh Debbie....I will surely keep Obie in my prayers. I know pets can live well with diabetes.....but I hope this is nothing too serious. Please do keep us informed, I will be anxious to hear some news. Big, hugs, Kathleen

Debbie I just read your blog and was sad to hear about Obie, lets hope it is not more then a urinary infection. Bettys sister that has a cat with diabetes and it seems to work well, only trouble is that it has to be done at the same time every day which means that she has to leave work for a half hour each day but her boss is very good about it. I know what its like I have to take it once in the morning and once at night, but after you get use to it you'll find it easer with time. We will say a paryer for you and Obie

Ahhh ... I just wrote you and posted and when I checked on my comment, it was gone! My computer blurted a blah, blah, blah never-the-less, no comment; no excuse!
I am very sorry about dear little Obie's problem and believe that he is of strong character and w/yours and Bob's loving care, he'll fare well and be his former happy, playful, sweet self again. I will pray to Saint Assisi and Sister Fitzback ... This is such a surprise as Obie's meals are healthy dogfood but, there again, it just may be that his diabetes originated elsewhere. I've never heard of this in dogs and I am very surprised and will be learning more on this.
I am so sorry to learn of Obie's condition however fully believe that he'll do well and continue to be his sweet, playful self into an old age.
OBIE COULDN'T BE IN BETTER HANDS!
Love, GeeGee

Hi Debbie!
It sure sounds like diabetes, but that isn´t as bad as it can sound! I have friends that had a cat with diabetes and he, like Obie will, understood that the insuline shots was good for him. He lived a long and good life! But I hope that it´s something simpler anyway and that he will be ok soon!

Oh my! He looks so fit! My sister has cats with diabetes and they are very overweight, (cutting the lbs with the diabetes though). I hope it works out for him!
PS. Thanks for the shout out!

I hope he is going to be okay. Many dogs do get diabetes, but it is managed with insulin very nicely. It isn't the worst diagnosis..hey we do what we gotta do when it comes to the care of our pets. The new blood work will give you some clues and a diagnosis..I will be thinking positive thoughts! Chance too! :)

Having one of our pets sick is akin to having a child sick. They are a member of the family and it is scary. I hope Obie will be alright...I know how worried you must be! Let us know how it goes..I'm sending good positive thoughts to Obie!
